Rei Hino is a shinto priestess at her grandfather's Hikawa Shrine on Sendai Hill. She has two pet crows and a special ability to see premonitions, sense evil auras, and being able to disperse evil spirits with her ofuda. She also is able to seek guidance and information from the sacred fire in the shrine. Rei attends an all girls school, and is usually the one who takes up the role of committee leader. Rei met Usagi when she and other girls from Juuban Junior High came to the shrine to check out the new charms that were being sold. A man had started working at the shrine and helping out with selling of charms, and at the same time the shrine bus (#66) started to disappear, along with its entire passenger load. Usagi and Luna came to investigate the situation and by doing so, stumbling across Rei's true identity. Luna left behind a Henshin Pen that Rei picked up and kept. When she was attacked by the charm seller (who turned out to be Jadeite of the Dark Kingdom), Rei was told that the pen she had found was a tool for her to become the Sailor Soldier of the planet Mars, Sailor Mars. With Sailor Mars' powerful fire attacks and her confidence, she makes a great ally to the Sailor Soldiers. Rei's fiery temper is almost always brought on by Usagi's nagging, but even though Rei and Usagi fight a lot, over the years their friendship has become the deepest of all the Sailor Soldiers (even if they do still argue a lot). Sailor Mars is one of the Soldiers of the Four Guardian Deities.
