Luna is the talking black cat with the crescent bald spot that was found by Usagi Tsukino one day on her way to school. Luna originally had a bandage covering the crescent mark which was dulling her ability to talk or to sense the Sailor Team's presence. After that encounter, Luna tracked down Usagi and told her that she was the leader of the Sailor Soldiers, Sailor Moon! Usagi was unsure of herself at first, but Luna helped her see her true character and guided her on the path of her ultimate destiny. Luna has been Usagi's conscience, her mentor and her best friend. She has always been there for Usagi whenever she has needed her and this has been a friendship that has lasted through the centuries. In the future, Luna and her partner Artemis; have a child named Diana. She becomes Chibiusa's (Sailor Chibi Moon's) animal guardian, and so the cycle continues.
