  In the premier episode of Sailor Moon we learn about our past 1,000 years ago, when the whole universe was at peace. This certain time in history was known as the Silver Millennium. During this time, the Moon could sustain life, had a breathable atmosphere, possessed a gravitational pull similar to that on Earth, and even had an ample water supply. Earth's moon was also SM Section to a great civilization ruled my Queen Serenity. The Moon Kingdom was situated here, and it was a peaceful place where dignitaries from other planets met to celebrate the harmony they shared. There were dances and parties every night in celebration of this peaceful time, but all that was changed, when an evil being known as Queen Beryl broke out of her Negaverse and into our universe. Her goal was to conquer the moon, and to do so, Queen Beryl unleashed the awesome power of the Negaforce and her Invincible Shadow Warrior.
Although Serenity's Kingdom was destroyed, she used her last ounce of strength, with the Imperium Silver Crystal and the Crescent Moon Wand. The only thing in the universe which could combat the power of the Negaverse was this Silver Crystal. It was a legendary crystal born from the love and friendship of the people of the moon. Queen Serenity unleashed its power and froze Princess Serena and the rest of the court in Moon Beam Crystals and sent them to the future on Earth. In doing so, the Silver Crystal shattered, and also splitting the Shadow Warrior into seven separate shadows. Each shadow locked into one of the seven shards. These became the Rainbow Crystals and were sent to the future along with the rest of the moon family. On being reborn on Earth, all memories of the Silver Millennium were lost, and the Queen also sent her two cat advisors, Luna and Artemis, entrusted with the mission of finding the Moon Princess, so she will be safe at last.  
  It's now the present day of Juuban, Tokyo, Japan. We meet a 14-year-old Juuban Junior High Schoolgirl, named Usagi Tsukino. Straight away we saw Serena as a tardy, klutzy cry-baby, whom had trouble at school and always appeared to get really bad grades. We also learn about two of Serena's closest friends; Molly Baker & Melvin Umino. These two are both in year 2 - class 1, the same as Serena and they have known each other ever since Elementary school. One day, when Serena was late for school, she stumbled across a bunch of kids in a parking-lot hurting a small black cat. Serena quickly scared the children away, and saved the poor cat. As she picked up the black cat, she noticed that it had a band-aid over it's forehead. After removing the band-aid, discovering a crescent mark in its place. Startled by the cat's reaction, Serena backed away then continued to run off to school.
Later that day in her bedroom, the same cat appeared again to Serena, and introduced herself as Luna, informing Serena that she was destined to be the Sailor Scout Leader of the Moon. A fighter for love, truth, and justice known as; 'Sailor Moon'. Along with the other four Sailor Scouts: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus. They were all given magical powers to protect the innocent people of Earth from the evil forces of the Negaverse. In Sailor Moon's (Serena's) first battle, she was up against the first ever Negaverse Negamonster to appear on Earth, Morga. In her first tough battle she was saved by the "hunky" Tuxedo Mask. Unknown to her that he held the identity of Darien Chiba, a young university student she had met earlier that day, whom made fun of Serena's unusual hairstyle by calling her "Meatball Head".  
  Gradually, Serena and Luna found the other four Sailor Scouts and reunited them with their mission to find the Moon Princess from the Silver Millennium era, on the Moon Kingdom. After battling the many Negamonster and being in tough battles against the Negaverse's finest Warriors; Jedite, Nephlite, Zoycite and Malachite, they became more outgoing and stronger than ever. They also discovered their past lives. They were reincarnations of Planetary Princess'. Sailor Moon was the long searched for Princess Serena, and Tuxedo Mask was discovered to be the Princess' lost love, Prince Darien from the Earth Kingdom, 1,000 years in the past.
1,000 years ago during the Silver Millennium, The Moon Kingdom was SM Section to Queen Serenity and her daughter Princess Serena. The Moon had been threatened by evil forces earlier, and Prince Darien had traveled to the moon to help fight. Prince Darien and Princess Serena met and fell in love, and had been engaged. A week before the marriage the Moon Kingdom had a giant party. The evil force known as the Negaforce broke out of her Negaverse and into the Earth's Universe. The Queen of the Negaverse, Beryl, attacked the Moon Kingdom with a vengeance and unleashed her army of dark warriors.  
  The Negaverse followed them and not long after, broke back into our Universe and began to drain energy from humans. This energy would then be fed to the great Negaforce who was drastically weakened in the battle on the Moon. Their mission was also to search the Earth for the Seven Rainbow Crystal that contained the Shadow Warriors. They disappeared into Earth's atmosphere and were reborn in humans. These humans had no recollection of their former existence but were left with amazing super-natural powers or talents, such as; foresee, telekinesis, or even extremely gifted in painting. The Negaverse removed these crystals in hopes of melding them together to return the Silver Crystal to its former shape. Once the Silver Crystal appeared, this was when Princess Serena was revealed and her destiny to destroy the evil forces was put upon her. Prince Darien (Tuxedo Mask) was injured in a battle between the warrior Zoycite, in a duel for the ownership of the crystals. He was then captured and brainwashed by the Negaverse and was used by Queen Beryl to retrieve the Silver Crystal from Sailor Moon. Prince Darien was now known as Evil Prince Darien, and his only mission was to please Queen Beryl.
The final battle against Queen Beryl took place in the North Pole; where Queen Beryl had set up base when arriving on Earth. Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus lost their lives during this battle, after battling against the strongest of the Negaverse Negamonster, The Doom & Gloom Girls. Sailor Moon went one-on-one against Evil Prince Darien, and in a vicious confrontation between the two, Sailor Moon was able to retrieve Darien's memories and remove any spells Queen Beryl had cast on him. Darien lost his life, after saving Sailor Moon from Queen Beryl's Rock Spear, which he shattered with his Red Rose but shards of the spear hit him. Sailor Moon (Princess Serenity) confronted the new improved Super Beryl (power she gained from the now awakened Negaforce) and in a final clash, the spirits of the Sailor Scouts lent Princess Serena their powers and Queen Beryl was destroyed; blasted back to the Negaverse.
The Earth was safe again, thanks to the Sailor Scouts and their power of love and friendship.
